Moldovan legislation provides for various legal methods of obtaining Moldovan citizenship and a passport, which allows the use of all the rights of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova.

Restoration of the passport of a citizen of Moldova (persons who previously held Moldovan citizenship have the right to submit documents for its restoration, while retaining foreign citizenship, if the law of the respective country allows it).

Law of the Republic of Moldova. Article 24 - Restoration of Moldovan Citizenship:

Persons born or who lived on the territory of Bessarabia and the Moldavian SSR before June 28, 1940, those who were expelled or left Moldova since 1940, as well as their descendants, may be rehabilitated into citizenship of the Republic of Moldova upon their official request.

The issue of citizenship of minors is decided by their parents who have been rehabilitated into citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. Upon reaching the age of 14, their consent is required.

The recovery of citizenship by one of the spouses does not change the citizenship of the other spouse. A foreign citizen or a stateless person, as the spouse of a person rehabilitated as a citizen of the Republic of Moldova, may obtain Moldovan citizenship in accordance with the conditions of this law.

The legislation of the Republic of Moldova allows for dual (multiple) citizenship. Therefore, former citizens of the Republic of Moldova who permanently reside abroad and wish to regain their Moldovan citizenship may submit the appropriate application to the embassy or consular representation of the Republic of Moldova abroad.

Please note: if you are outside the Republic of Moldova, you can still use our services. To do this, you must contact the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova and grant a power of attorney. You can also do this at a notary in the country where you live.
